Alain Massicotte

Born in Montréal, 1956, Alain Massicotte studied Architecture at the University of Montréal from 1974–1976. The artist then studied Visual Communication at the University of Laval at Québec from 1977–1978. On two occasions Canada Post has called upon his talents as a painter to design stamps. He has also been selected to create sketches for one coin of national currency. An extensive clientele has employed his skills as an artist: the OSM, Air Canada, Loto-Québec, the SAQ, Alberta Adventure, Canadian Pacific, Molson, Labatt, etc.

Encompassing a rich and diversified artistic practice, the artists’ oeuvre includes nude drawing, portrait and landscape. In 2004, he completed a series of original works with trees as the subject. This series, entitled, Between Tree and Canvas, has been exhibited at two Montréal art galleries between 2004–2006, and at the Maison de la Culture of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Montréal.

In 2007, the artist began a new series of small 8" x 12" paintings in oil-on-wood, which are combined to form large, thematically unified mosaics. In My Yard presents a rich pictorial universe that also embodies a gestural quality and an artistic sense of composition.

The works of Alain Massicotte can be found in numerous private and corporate collections. The artist lives and works in Montréal.
